Beach Hotel
introduced Rafting to the people of Kuwait in 1987. The
first
race was held in November of that year. In the early days the
competitors commenced the race by running with their
raft over the sand for 30 meters until they reached the
sea. As the years progressed the event became more
popular and this style of start was impractical, today
we have 5 categories of rafts for the competitors to
enter.

The invasion of Kuwait in August 1990, caused severe
damage to the hotel, and the reintroduction of the Raft
Race was delayed until 1993. As the years have
progressed this water sport extravaganza has become the
most popular event in Kuwait's sporting calendar.
Today
with the closure of the hotel for re-construction the
event has been temporarily transferred to
The next Raft Race will be held
in 2009.
